HOW THEY MET In the fall of 1995, playing volleyball in a rec league.
HOW THEY GOT ENGAGED On Fire Island in 2015, just moments after the Supreme Court made marriage equality a reality in all 50 states. Korbin: “It was an overwhelming victory for us personally, as we had committed to wait to get legally married in our beloved Dallas.”
BACHELOR PARTIES They had two parties and attended both together—one in Dallas and one in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Korbin: “San Juan was so special because, like our wedding, we had so many different ‘types’ of people in attendance—gay men, lesbian women, and straight men and women.” Friends also threw the couple a “gay boys only” bachelor party in the gay nightlife district of Oak Lawn in Dallas.
REHEARSAL DINNER A casual backyard affair with a “Hot Summer Nights” theme. Dinner was provided by the Butcher’s Son, a local food truck. Dessert was a selection of frozen Mexican treats from a traditional pushcart.
WEDDING-DAY WEATHER Hot and muggy. It rained in the afternoon but cleared up by early evening.

WEDDING COLORS Black, antique gold, and vintage sepia.
THEME “Vintage Train Travel,” inspired by the 100-year-old Union Station wedding venue, complete with a fictional train line called the Kordave Express (a mashup of their first names).
FLOWERS Hydrangeas, ranunculus, tulips, amaryllis, cymbidiums, hyacinths, and roses.
DIY HIGHLIGHTS All the printed materials and signage complemented the vintage train theme. Save-the-date cards emulated 1900s postcards, and invitations reflected the style of first-class vintage train tickets with “June” and “11” hole-punched as if by a conductor. Guest place cards were printed on vintage luggage tags.
THE MENU Two dinner options were provided. One, Tuscan Station, offered an arugula salad with pear, sautéed black kale with crispy pancetta, grilled bistecca alla Fiorentina, poached branzino, and chicken breast pan fritto. The Uptown Classic Station served artichoke salad, roasted vegetables, grilled côte de boeuf in a sweet-onion bordelaise sauce, pan-seared salmon, and herb-roasted chicken.
DESSERT The eight-tier, white-and-chocolate wedding cake stood nearly 5 feet high and featured two steam locomotives and two world maps with pushpins representing the countries the grooms have visited.
MUSIC A 12-piece band called the Jam Wows! provided live music for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception.
IF THEY HAD TO DO IT OVER They would have extended their wedding reception another hour.
FAVORITE DETAIL Korbin: “We announced to our guests we were the first same-sex couple ever to have been married at Union Station Dallas.”
HIGH POINTS OF PLANNING AN LGBT WEDDING Korbin: “Our wedding planner, Ricardo Tomás, assembled an A+ list of vendors who were very LGBT-positive. We never experienced anything but full support from the vendors. The Dallas County Clerk office and staff were so supportive of us and really made the marriage-license application process easy.”
UNIQUE ELEMENTS OF THE DAY The officiant suggested a “ring warming” ritual, in which each guest held, blessed, and passed the wedding rings until they reached the grooms’ mothers, who delivered them to the best men.
UNEXPECTED EVENT Guests set off Roman candle–like confetti sticks, raining black, white, and gold paper down on the grooms to kick off the final disco dance.
ADVICE FOR OTHERS Take your wedding portraits the day before the ceremony. Korbin: “You’ll want to spend every moment after you say ‘I do’ at your reception surrounded by your guests.”
