OCCUPATIONS They’re software engineers who own their own company specializing in enterprise application development, web, and mobile applications.
HOW THEY MET They worked together at Texas A&M University, then on developing software—and then just never stopped.
HOW THEY GOT ENGAGED From the time they first starting dating, they knew they’d always be together forever. In fact, they were a couple for 17 years before they tied the knot, because they felt it tremendously important to have their marriage legally recognized in Texas, the state they live in. As soon as the SCOTUS ruling came through in 2015, they decided it was finally time.
REHEARSAL DINNER Jimmy: “Our country club has a great restaurant that’s a wonderful place to relax and gather. They were kind enough to set up the main dining room for all our friends and family, and we had a wonderful meal together. Many people had just arrived or flown in, so it was a great chance to catch up before the big day.”
WEDDING-DAY WEATHER Perfect! It was slightly cloudy with a high of around 78. It was such great weather for celebrating outside all evening!
NUMBER OF GUESTS 67.
WEDDING COLORS Blue, black, and gold, with additional jewel tones in the florals.
THEME An elegant and intimate affair.
FLOWERS Bay laurel garland with assorted clusters, including purple hydrangea, succulents, red heart roses, blue anemone, purple lisyanthus, purple stock, free spirit roses, green mini hydrangea, and fuchsia orchids.
DIY HIGHLIGHTS Jimmy and Eric own a laser cutter with which they created their own cake topper, using a picture of themselves and the laser to engrave the image on plastic.
THE MENU Passed appetizers of ahi tuna tartar on wonton crisps with wasabi sauce, petite fried spring rolls in sake cups, and smoked chicken–tequila mini burritos with tomatillo sauce. There were three options for the plated entrée: jumbo shrimp cocktail in mini martini glasses garnished with snap pea shots and field greens salad; sweet bourbon-glazed salmon with diced caramelized zucchini and squash and Lyonnaise potatoes; and filet mignon with asparagus, mashed potatoes, and a demi-glace.
DESSERT A four-tier cake adorned in gold leaf and gold sequins.
MUSIC A string quartet during the ceremony and dinner set an elegant mood. Karaoke added a fun element to the dancing into the evening.
FAVORITE DETAIL Eric: “We wanted our wedding at home, but only if our home could be turned into a ‘destination.’ Our wedding planner made history for us, with incredible floral arrangements and string lighting with seating for more than 60 guests in our back yard. Our favorite part was the food, which was catered by the City Club Fort Worth, and people are still talking about it today when we see them.
UNIQUE ELEMENTS OF THE DAY The wedding planner had the wonderful idea of putting a dance floor in the great room of Jimmy and Eric’s house. Jimmy: “We were skeptical about at first, but it was a big hit with everyone and probably received the most traffic out of all the areas that evening.”
ADVICE FOR OTHERS Don’t wait! Well, wait a little while, but if you’re sure you’re sure, don’t wait. Enjoy celebrating your life with the person you love, and cherish that freedom.
