To believers in the mystical powers of crystals, agate is considered a source of protection, healing, and harmony—all important qualities that set the tone for a long and happy marriage. Sheron Madden of Sugary & Chic, the popular Houston wedding cakes bakery, used agate as her inspiration for this elegant dessert table, which centers on a statuesque four-tiered wedding cake clad in swirling blue and white fondant. “The beauty of creating an agate cake is that you never really know what you’re going to get,” says Madden. The cake is topped with edible gold leaf, which also accents the accompanying crunchy almond meringues and white cupcakes.
“When marbling the fondant using this technique,” says Madden, “the colors collide and mingle just the way they want to, creating the most imperfectly perfect representation of nature’s beauty through sugar.”
Geometric sugar cookies topped with hand-painted watercolor designs add a
touch of artful whimsy.
Pure Mexican vanilla extract was used to flavor the pure-white wedding cupcakes.
