DIY Paper Wedding Cake

Morning lovely people,

How are you doing? My feet have just about recovered from the wedding event on Sunday (full report coming up this afternoon) so I thought I’d share one of the DIY projects I had on my stand… a paper cake!

The cake is made up of ‘cake slice’ favor boxes so not only does it look pretty on your dessert table or as table centers, but it’s also a different way of packaging up small favors like sweets or seeds. Decoration by day, easy favor distributer by night 😉

To make it you will need some white card, scissors, a pencil, a ruler, glue and access to a printer:

Step 1 ~ Print out a ‘cake slice’ favor box template. I used *this one*, glued it to a piece of card then cut around it to make a template…

Step 2 ~ I wanted a two-tier cake so I made two different sized templates then drew around each one 12 times (to make a circle), cut them out, folded and glued them together to make each individual cake slice /favor box…

Step 3 ~ When you have twelve boxes you can make a complete circle. To secure tie around some string, ribbon or lace to each tier then just stack them up…

And there’s the basis for this super clever paper cake! Now you can have fun decorating it – I wanted to give mine a ruffled, textured effect to I used circles of tissue paper, scrunched them up and glued them all over the base of the cake. Each slice would then be decorated when removed and together it looks quite effective…

What do you think? I was quite pleased with it… a sweet paper version of the ruffle cake. Although not quite finished, some glittery cake toppers (I’ll be sharing the DIY tutorial for these soon) was my icing on the cake… *rolls eyes**
