The Astorian Turns a Historic Landmark into a Chic Event Space
Imagine your wedding ceremony overlooking breathtaking views of the Houston skyline. Following the ceremony, experience a reception in high style in the Grand Ballroom as you enjoy a champagne toast with the sun setting over the horizon. Whatever your vision, The Astorian will deliver the wedding of your dreams.
Built in the 1940’s, The Astorian is housed in a former paint factory, which was designated with “historical” status in 2015. Local Artist, Rafael Cueto, was commissioned to create one-of-a-kind handcrafted pieces, including the 40-foot mural oversized and fully functioning 14-carat gold foil clock, and the rusted and oxidized surface treatments that you see throughout the space. The overall inspiration for The Astorian’s industrial chic, 14,000 square foot private loft space comes from New York City’s Grand Central Station. “Integrating the new while maintaining the original character of the building, even utilizing some of the factory machinery pieces as wall treatments, was of upmost importance when we adapted this historical landmark into an event space,” says co-owner Romain Kapadia.
Since its opening in 2015, The Astorian has been inclusive of all couples from across the state, and even across the country. From Los Angeles to New York City, couples with Texas roots are returning to their hometown to celebrate in style. One of the many elements that makes this space so alluring is its location in the Houston Heights art district. “It’s an exciting creative district with a lot of development underway to promote local culture and art as well high-end retail, residential, and hospitality. We are lucky to grow with the area. The unique 14-foot glass windows give guests an unobstructed view of the downtown Houston skyline; nighttime is unlike anywhere else in the city,” adds Kapadia.
The Astorian staff are the best in the business, attentive, detailed, and one step ahead of your needs; they work hand-in-hand with couples’ planners to transform any idea into reality. From champagne-pouring aerialists to A-list celebrity performers, no idea is out of the realm of possibility. There is no question why The Astorian has been named the best in the city. The pictures just don’t do it justice…you have to see this one for yourselves. If interested, schedule a tour to get a true feel for the elegance and grandiosity of the space.
